Patriarch Park
Thursday, May 28th, 2009

Little D went on a field trip with her kindergarten class to Patriarch park in Lansing. I was the chaperone for Little D, Little D’s classmate (Makayla), and Little C. Shortly, after we arrived little D fell and hurt her self. Mrs. G tried to comfort her but she was miserable. I felt sad that she only wanted to sit instead of play especially since this was her last field trip as a kindergartener. I gave her a Tylenol at lunch and that seemed to help temporarily and she was able to play. After lunch I pushed many kids on the tire swing. There were three kids on the swing at a time and with a long line of kids waiting to be pushed.

Easter day at Mom’s

We did the traditional Stone Easter of a big dinner and an Easter Egg hunt. The dinner consisted of ham, all rotten potatoes, rolls, jello, shrimp cocktail, and coconut crème pie. Little C won the Easter Egg hunt and was the first to pick out a prize. Everyone gets a price but the total egg count determines the picking of the prize order such as from the most to the less eggs. Little C picked out the pail shovel and little D won picked the puppy in a purse. My brother, Monica, and I spent time reminiscing about childhood memories. For example, when Jeremy’s friend Derek tried to put a plunger up Monica’s butt we were so mad that we locked him outside the house with no shoes on in the middle of winter. My brother, some friends and I spent time on top of doghouse behind our garage on Ogden St. in Kalamazoo smoking. I don’t think we really new how to smoke but I guess we thought we were cool. That was back in the day when your parents could write a note to the store authorizing kids to buy cigarettes for them. We would save the notes and get some of our own. I am so glad kids cannot do that anymore and I now wish smoking was banned from all restaurants. On many occasions I would pin my brother down and put rug bunnies in his nose and I even tried to cook him dog food for lunch. Monica and I still swear we saw a U.F.O (it was probably a plane) but something was very different about it. When living on Hilbert St. in Kalamazoo my brother and I set the curtains on fire and had a horrible tar fight. It was nice to laugh about the silly things we did as a kid but there was also a very real sadness in the air. We wished Beth was here. It was our first holiday with out her. None of us talked about it much but we could all feel it and occasionally we saw tears building up in our eyes. Even as I write this now I can’t stop from crying. We miss you Beth. I hope you have all the unknown questions answered now that you are at the lord’s side. Was it really a U.F.O? Which came first the chicken or the egg? What is heaven like? We love you and miss you always!

Little D’s ears pierced
Saturday, April 11th, 2009

We took little D to Claires at the Meridian Mall to get her ears pierced. She picked out pink flower earrings. The ladies at Claires were able to pierce both of her ears at the same time. It was a special day for my little girl. I am so glad we waited until she asked to have them pierced. Daddy and I were able to enjoy the experience with her.

Little D’s schoolmate (J) invited us to his batman birthday party at Castaway Café in Howell, MI. We had a GREAT time in the huge indoor play structure. Even, mom and dad went down the gigantic slide. The slide wrapped around the structure with many bumps and turns. I went down the slide so fast I think I got air. Little D gave her friend a pirate Lego set and enjoyed cake and ice cream. They had a special visitor come to the party. Little D was at tad bit afraid of Batman at first but warmed up to him quickly. J’s mom told us that little D was on his prettiest girls list. So precious! Kindergarten crush.

Easter Eggs

Friday, April 10th, 2009

Today we colored Easter Eggs and made Easter crafts. Big D used a silk tie to dye an Easter egg. What an awesome idea. The egg turned out beautiful. We blew the egg yolks out so we could save them for next year. After coloring eggs we went to Good Friday church service.

Materials and Tools
Small- to medium-size raw eggs
Glass or enamel pot
Silk ties, blouses, or boxers, cut into pieces large enough to cover an egg
White sheets (or pillowcases or old tablecloths), cut into pieces to cover silk-wrapped eggs
Twist ties
3 tablespoons of white vinegar
Warm water
Vegetable oil
Paper towels
Tongs or spoon
Silk Tie Easter Eggs How-To
1. Cut silk into a square (or a piece) large enough to wrap around a raw egg.
2. Wrap a raw egg with a piece of silk, making sure the printed side of the material is facing the egg. Silk can still be used if it doesn't fit perfectly around egg.
3. Place the silk-wrapped egg in a piece of white sheet, pillowcase, or old tablecloth and secure tightly with a twist-tie.
4. Place the egg(s) in an enamel or glass pot. Fill pot with water to cover eggs completely. Then, add three tablespoons of white vinegar.
5. Bring water to a boil, turn heat down, and simmer for 20 minutes (longer if you plan on eating the eggs).
6. Remove eggs from water with tongs or spoon and let cool.
7. Remove silk from cooled egg.
8. For shiny eggs, wipe with vegetable oil after completing step 7.
Resources
Silk goods such as ties, blouses, and boxers can be purchased at rummage sales or thrift stores. Silk can be reused on eggs.
