Funny Little C

Monday, October 20th, 2008

I explained to little C that she was going to go to Grandma's for the week while daddy and I went to Rhode Island. She asked which grandma's. I said that she was going to Grandma K's because Grandma S has to work. She replied, "Grandma S has to do the dishes?"

Too Cute.

Woldumar Nature Center

Sat., Oct. 18th, 2008

We went to Woldumar Park to visit with daddy. We also had the chance to play in a huge leave pile and walk the beautiful trails. Big D is starting a Black Smith guild and will be demostrating at the park on a regular basis. He is really excited because they plan on building a barn/workshop for him and the guild. Woldumar asked Big D if he could draw the plans for the barn because they want it to be historic. We are so happy that Big D and our friends will now have a shop to meet at and work. Now, big D can get more honey do projects done. He just resently made a back pack holder for our school backpacks. I am patiently waiting for a black iron Christmas Tree to hold all our heavy ornaments. Please come and see us at Woldumar for Big D's demostrations. Next one is on Saturday, November 15th.

Peacock Road Farm

Friday, Oct. 17th, 2008

Little C and I went to Peacock Road Farm to pick pumpkins. It is an awesome farm. They had all sorts of things to do. Little C played in the miniture houses, road tractors, played in the playground, visited the fish pond, visited the animal park, played on straw mountain, and rode a wagon out to pick a pumpkin. The farm also offers a Christmas store, pig races, fire pits for bon fires, corn maze, train rides, and cabins for rent. During Christmas they have Christmas Trees, winter sleigh parties, visits with Santa and his reindeer. If you have never been I would highly recommend you go.

Big D gets a new job with MSHDA

Monday, Oct. 13th, 2008

Big D got a job offer for the State of Michigan's MSHDA department. He will be working with other state employees to help communitees to revitalize their downtowns. Big D starts Nov. 3rd.

"The Cool Cities Michigan Main Street (MMS) Program provides technical assistance services to communities who are targeting the revitalization and preservation of their traditional commercial district." Quote from State of Michigan Main Street Program. Click here for site

He will have to do a lot of traveling. Mostly day trips to the participating cities such as Muskegon, Marshall, Iron Mountian, Niles, Dowagiac, and many more. The 3rd day on the job he is going to Boyne City. We hope to be able to travel with him occasionally during the summer.

We are very proud that Big D completed his Masters in Historic Preservation and now has a career from his studies, in MICHIGAN at that. I am happy to report we will NOT be moving out of state after all.

Making Strides Against Breast Cancer

Saturday, October 11th, 2008

The weather was perfect for the "Making Strides Against Breast Cancer" walk on Sat. I want to thank my wonderful family, Kellie, Mindy, and Susanna for walking with me this year. I really appreciate your support. Sometimes, I have a hard time remembering the loses I had to face because of this disease. However, I am grateful to have a good diagnosis. Only, 2 more years and I will be done with meds!

Space Chimps

Space Chimps (Family Dove Film Festival)
Thursday, Oct. 9th, 2008

Little C and I went to celebration to see "Space Chimps". It was a cute movie but not one of the best movie's I have seen. "Horton Hears a Who" if my favorite. If you haven't seen Horton yet I would recommend seeing it during the Dove Film Fest this month.

Little D's Fire Truck visit

Tuesday, Oct. 7th

The Lansing Fire department paid a visit to Little D's school today. The fire fighters asked many questions to the class such as "what number to call in case of a fire"? I was very impressed that the class knew all the questions the fire fighters asked. They also informed them to NOT be afraid when they saw the fire fighter in his gear. I thought that was good advice because they would look scary dressed in gear and walking through the smoke with possibly an axe or hose in their hands.

Meridian Heritage Festival

Meridian Heritage Festival
Saturday, October 4th

We attended the festival at the Meridian Historical Village on Saturday and it included a lot of activities such as Live music, cultural dance exhibitions, Farmers Market, Native American crafts, and a Blacksmith demonstration. Of coarse the blacksmith was a friend of Big D's. Doug Thayer has a very artful eye and we love his iron work.

The best part of the day for me was the pow wow. I could listen to Native American music all day. They did many different dances such as the Women's Fancy to the song butterfly and the hoop dance. They let the public participate in the welcome dance. The girls loved dancing with the Indians. Little C was so interested in the dances and music that she didn't take her eye away for the entire hour. Little C and I especially liked the hoop dance. As little C watch the young lady perform she said "I could do that". I believe that little C has music in her soul.
