Thanksgiving Day 2009

Thursday, November 26th, 2009

It was a highly tough Thanksgiving this year. My family and I did a GREAT job celebrating the holiday while we grieved for Beth (my sister in law). It's only been 8 months since she passed. The first Easter, first Birthday's, first Thanksgiving, first Christmas, and first any event without her is heart wrenching. I cried in the car on the way there and on the way back but as soon as I seen her babies (my niece and nephews) there was an automatic smile on my face. At 4, 6, and 8 years old they don't really understanding what is happening because it feels like the same Thanksgiving at Grandpa's house that we do every year but where is mommy? Fortunately, we were all together! The kids played with Grandpa's trains in the basement, Z and JT played on Grandma Jo's computer, and I played Sequence with my Grandma. Grandma brought a care package for me and my brother (bless her little heart). Thanks Grandma ... you rock. I enjoyed reminiscing about the past but missed Beth's smile and laughter as she would interrupt to tell us her stories. She was such a social bugger. We ended our Thanksgiving at the commentary to send her turkey wishes. Now, that I think about it I should have took a plate with all the fixing with me and left it there. I know she does not hunger in the lords presence but she might have enjoyed watching the critters eat her food. Love Ya..... Beth. We are thankful that you rejoice in Heaven with no more suffering.

Silver Bells in the City

Friday, November 20th, 2009

We went to Silver Bells in the City today. First, we went to my friend M's house to have dinner. Then, we drove to the light parade together and M was able to get a great parking spot compliments of her husband's work. We scurried toward the beginning line of the parade and found a place to sit. We enjoyed the lighted floats but did not appreciate the lady that stood behind us shoving her camera into the back of my friend's head. My favorite float was the double CATA bus that had lights strung around it to look like a caterpillar. After the parade we went to the library for face painting and ran into some more friends. We missed the tree lighting ceremony but did get a quick glimpse of the fireworks while on our way to the Lansing Center for the "150th birthday bash finale". While at the bash we had apple cider and ate hors d'oeuvres. Z saw a friend from 4th grade, little C saw her teacher, and I saw my friend L. It's so lovely to run into to people you know while attending a big city event. Big D took our kids home but M, M's kids, and I decided to go on a horse drawn carriage ride before heading home.

Silver Bells in the City, which attracts 120,000 attendees, annually features an Electric Light Parade followed by the lighting of Michigan’s official Christmas tree and a firework show over the State Capitol.

The entire evening is also filled with free family entertainment including free admission to Lansing’s cultural institutions, horse-drawn wagon rides on Washington Square,........

Please Ma Ma

Monday, November 9th, 2009

Little D starting crying today because she didn't finish dinner and I wouldn't let her have dessert. "I want dessert mama please" over and over again. Mean mom replies "You can cry and throw a fit all you want but you still aren't getting dessert", her reply " but sometimes when I throw a fit you give it to me" Argg.. I will make sure to never do that again.

Comments:
Crystal : Stand firm mom!
Laura : tough love is hard!!! I am really having to do that with Bella right now!! I just keep telling myself that it will pay off when she is a teenager. ( I hope)
Kellie: Awesome!
Sarah: I am often that mean mom. Definitely stand firm.
Kathy: We can learn so much from our children when we listen. So glad you stuck strong!

Halloween Day 2009

Saturday, October 31st, 2009

First, we had our pictures taken in our Halloween costumes at kristyphotography.com . Then, we went a couple streets over to meet up with some friends for trick or treating. Our first stop was at Becky's house. She gave the kids candy and treat bags. After Becky's we hit approximately 10 more houses. We didn't want to go for very long because we wanted to get home for our Halloween party. I was overwhelmed with joy while watching the pitter patter of little feet running from house to house with big smiles on their faces. One of the houses had a spider hiding at the top of his door and when the older kids came up to ask for candy he would drop the spider. The kids jumped with fright but thought it was exciting and couldn't stop laughing about it. We all had a fabulous time at our party and it was delightful to see the kids running around the house, playing games, and eating candy.

We went trick or treating at Eastwood Towne Center today. Big D went as "Cat in the Hat", little D went as "Thing 3", and little C went as "Thing 1", and I went as "Thing 2". We ran into some old neighbors and after catching up with our friends we had dinner at Johnny Rockets. When we got home and painting our pumpkins to put on the porch.

Comments: It was nice seeing you guys. Your girls are so tall! Chey is taller than Ava. I wish I could plan stuff with people better but I guess it was last minute for both of us. Fun nonetheless!
